End-of-Summer House Cleaning: A Great Way to Declutter Your Home for Back-to-School Time!

    featured image

    IN News /

You’ve probably done some spring cleaning at some point and organized a garage sale to get rid of unused items. But end-of-summer cleaning is just as useful, even if you don’t think about it right away, especially if spring was very busy for your family and you didn’t have time to sort through everything.

In fact, sorting things out in August helps to declutter your home before the start of the new school year and the colder months, when most of your time is spent indoors. It’s a great way to make space after the summer holidays.

Here are a few house cleaning ideas for you at the end of summer. Take advantage of the opportunity to donate to Entraide diabétique du Québec any items you no longer need but that are still in good condition!

    A decluttered clothes closet

As every parent knows: clothes that fit in September will probably be too small in April. So why keep summer clothes that won’t be wearable anymore? Sort through your children’s clothes before putting them away and taking out the winter ones. You’ll save a lot of space and have a better idea of what to buy when the warmer weather returns.

The same applies to you. Before putting away your summer outfits, put aside the clothes you haven’t worn, that no longer fit or that you no longer like.

    You will have tried it!

It’s also worth thinking about sports gear and camping equipment. You’ve realized that roller skating, pétanque, fishing or camping aren’t for you, and you don’t plan on doing any of these activities next summer? We’ll be happy to come and pick up your equipment!

Here are a few examples of items we accept:

    • Roller skates
    • Elbow and knee pads
    • Camping cookware and thermoses
    • Coolers
    • Outdoor tableware
    • Snowshoes
    • Balls
    • Headlamps
    • Lanterns and flashlights

    Games change

As children get older, it’s only natural that they switch from certain toys and games to other sources of fun. If you know that next summer, your little ones will no longer be using some of their outdoor toys and accessories, there’s no need to let them gather dust in the garden shed. You can give these items a second life by donating them to us at Entraide diabétique du Québec!

For example, we collect the following toys and games:

    • Shovels and buckets
    • Bubble-making accessories
    • Wooden bowling games
    • Bean bag toss game
    • Tree swings
    • Skipping ropes

    Empty the shed!

Don’t hesitate to continue on with your garden shed and house cleaning in order to donate to us any other items you no longer use.

Here’s a list of items you might not need when spring returns:

    • Lawn umbrellas
    • Set of outdoor lights
    • Gardening items
    • Outdoor cushions
    • Hammocks
    • Flower pots (empty)

When you’ve finished sorting, you can drop off your clothes in one of our donation bins or, if you have several boxes of items to donate, contact us for a home pick-up.

Keep in mind that we don’t accept furniture, appliances or electronics, among other things. And items must be in good condition. Consult the list of accepted items to find out what you can donate!
